Concentrations

Each camper chooses two of the following concentrations:

Pendemonium Let's get writing! Campers will explore writing for film, television and theatre. Pendemonium participants will play a key role in creating our final performance, working alongside many of the resident artists to assure a cohesive and unified final show. In addition, Campers will give their joke writing skills a go for The Stanleys, our very own version of The Oscars! Think you might be in our computer lab too much? No worries. These writers work outside too!

Singing in the Maine Wanna be a rock star? Win a Tony? Give Miley Cyrus a run for her money? This concentration focuses on vocal performance and production. Campers will explore their natural voice with our vocal coach who will have you singing your best!

Stanleywood Spielberg, Soderbergh, Lucas, Scorsese, Coppola. Do any of these names ring a bell? This filmmaking concentration will give campers the opportunity shoot, edit and direct The Stanleys, our very own version of The Oscars. The Stanleywood production crew will document camp highlights, facilitate camper testimonials and interview artists in residence in preparation for The Stanleys.

Spotlighters Do you love to act? Spotlighters is our acting concentration! Here campers will focus on scene study, monologues, and auditioning. Actors will concentrate on character development, how to break down material, and new strategies for selecting and preparing audition material. Resident artists will encourage each participant to get the most out of their creative imagination, voice and body.

Stanprovisation This high energy class will keep you on your toes and get you thinking outside the box. If you watch "Whose Line...", surf the net for the latest and greatest comedy web series, or a frequent SNL viewer, this is your concentration! Our resident comedy improvisation artist will create a safe and comfortable environment where campers will learn how failure can be fun and funny all at the same time! GO!

Behind the Scenes What if Dorothy didn't wear ruby slippers? What if the fiddler on the roof was without his fiddle? What if Juliet didn't have balcony to stand on? Ascetic assignment is the name of the game in our visual arts concentration. Campers will create costumes, sets and props from recycled, found and new materials using our beautiful fine arts studio that includes inside and outside space as well as our very own sewing room!

Cirque Du Stanleil Campers will clown their way into the world of circus. Circus performers will have the opportunity to explore a new way of telling great, innovative stories through pantomime, clowning, juggling, balancing and more! This discipline requires teamwork, body awareness, tons of energy, creativity and what MIT researcher calls "hard fun".

Bust-A-Movement This concentration combines many forms of dance to acquaint the camper to a variety of styles such as musical theatre, hip hop, modern, ballet, ballroom, and much more! Artists-in-residence will focus on coordination, body alignment, rhythm and control. All participants will be encouraged to express feeling through movement and create an original work.

Passing Notes Our resident songwriter will work alongside campers to develop and compose their own songs. Whether you are a writer, poet, musician or music lover this concentration accommodates everyone's skill level and expertise. First-time songwriters wanted!

W.O.K. COOL W.O.K. COOL is Camp Stanley's radio station! Do you love music, sound effects, writing, improvisation and acting? This concentration puts a fresh spin on an old art form and combines many skills of our creative campers. Participants will create a radio drama, make daily announcements and develop characters through the fun of radio!
